The Master Prompt: How to Humanize AI Writing and Kill the Slop

By default, most LLMs are trained to be “helpful assistants,” which results in a specific, annoying “corporate-polite” tone. They love metaphors, excessive emojis, and those telltale em dashes (—).

To fix this, we don’t need expensive “Humanizer” apps. We need a strict Style Constraint Framework.

1. The Problem: Telltale Signs of AI Writing

If your content contains these, your audience (and Google’s 2026 algorithms) will immediately flag it as AI:

  • The “Tapestry” Effect: Using words like delve, embark, unlock, revolutionize, or vibrant.
  • Dramatic Hyperbole: Calling everything a “game-changer” or “groundbreaking.”
  • Structural Fluff: Starting sentences with “In a world where…” or ending with “In conclusion.”
  • Formatting Overload: Excessive bolding, hashtags, and those signature AI bullet points.

2. The Master “Humanizer” Prompt

Copy and paste this Promptinto your LLM (Gemini, ChatGPT, or Claude) before generating content. It is designed for Direct Response style—the most effective way to communicate in 2026.

# SYSTEM INSTRUCTION: FOLLOW THIS WRITING STYLE
LANGUAGE: Use clear, simple, spartan language. Avoid "intellectual" fluff.
VOICE: Use Active Voice only. Directly address the reader with "you" and "your."
SENTENCES: Keep them short and impactful. One idea per sentence.
PUNCTUATION: STRICT BAN on em dashes (—). Use periods or commas only. No semicolons.
FORMATTING: No Markdown (no bolding, no italics). No hashtags. No asterisks.
FORBIDDEN WORDS: delve, embark, unlock, discover, revolutionize, game-changer, tapestry, illuminate, unveil, pivotal, intricate, furthermore, harness, cutting-edge, skyrocketing, testament, navigating, landscape, powerful.
AVOID: Metaphors, clichés, and generalizations. Do not use "setup" language (e.g., "In conclusion," "It is important to note").
IMPORTANT: Review your output. If you see an em dash or a forbidden word, rewrite the sentence immediately.

3. Implementation of best AI prompt: “Set It and Forget It”

You don’t have to paste this every time. Use the Custom Instructions (or “System Instructions”) feature in your favorite AI:

  1. In OpenAi ChatGPT, Open Settings: Go to “Customize ChatGPT” or your Profile settings.
  2. Paste the Rules: In the box labeled “How would you like [AI] to respond?”, paste the bullet points above.
  3. Trim for Length: If you hit a character limit, prioritize the Forbidden Words and the Em Dash Ban, as these are the biggest AI giveaways.

4. The “Before vs. After” (LinkedIn Example)

let’s see ChatGPT’s default output without the Prompt.

I opened a new incognito Chrome browser and went to ChatGPT.com, so I’m not logged in. ChatGPT has no memory of who I am, my preferences, my writing style.

I asked it to write a viral LinkedIn post about ChatGPT Agent:

LinkedIn direct response AI style

Lots of obvious AI writing signs…

  • em dashes
  • markdown (bold)
  • excessive emojis
  • hashtags (shouldn’t be used for Linkedin)
  • dramatic hyperbolic exaggeration / marketing hype

Now, here’s the output of the same task, but I’ve appended my humanize prompt:

LinkedIn direct response AI style

Much better!

More direct, to the point, less fluff exaggeration, nice bullet points for readability, no markdown, and I only counted 1 em dash.

The prompt isn’t perfect, by any stretch, so there may be a few lingering artifacts of AI writing, e.g. that lone em dash.

But I hope this serves as a starting point to teach ChatGPT how you want it to sound.
